Locks Explained

Why upgrade your locks?

'In incidents of domestic burglary in a dwelling where the offender entered the dwelling, the offender gained entry through a door around 70% of the time'*. A growing proportion of doors now have multi-point locks to avoid a door being forced. However, this is only as secure as the cylinder lock and there are multiple ways to compromise a cylinder lock. According to the Master Locksmiths Association, one quarter of burglaries involve lock snapping which is a growing trend of gaining access to a property. This method involves no expertise, no specialist tools and can allow access to your home in as little as 40 seconds.

The Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) and the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) in conjunction with Secured by Design have developed the TS007 standard to combat lock snapping as well as ensuring locks are also protected against the other methods of compromising a lock. Upgrading to these locks as well as practising safe behaviour ensures your house is as hard as possible for someone to break in to.
